Analyst ReportSQL Server 2014 Integration Services Migration Options
SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) is an extract, transform, and load (ETL) platform that can influence SQL Server 2014 migration plans. Organizations routinely use Integration Services to create automated workflows (called packages) that combine data from multiple sources, transform the data into a standard format, and then load the data into a data warehouse for end-user analysis or access by other business intelligence (BI) applications.
Integration Services Destinations
Integration Services is available in Azure VMs and as an Azure managed service in Azure Data Factory. Data Factory is compatible with the SSIS software and is updated frequently with the latest version. Customers considering migrating existing SQL Server Integration Services workloads to Azure will need to evaluate feature availability, sizing limitations, security, and fit within their overall ETL plans.
SQL Server Integration Services On-Premises and in Azure VMs
SQL Server Integration Services (on-premises and in hosted services, such as Azure VMs) provides the full feature set and is the only on-premises option. This configuration is only limited in size and performance by the hardware and OS on which it is deployed. Customers can deploy and use any version of SQL Server, which may be a deciding factor for customers with models built on older versions.
