Analyst ReportSQL Server Migration Assistants
Updated database migration tools to help users of Access, Oracle, and Sybase migrate to SQL Server are now available for free download. In addition, a new migration tool for MySQL, a popular open source database, will help customers migrate data to both SQL Server and the online SQL Azure service. The tools could help customers standardize multiple database platforms onto SQL Server in order to reduce duplication of data and personnel, and could lower infrastructure costs by letting them move on-premises data storage to the SQL Azure service.
Moving to SQL Server 2005 or Later
The SQL Server Migration Assistants (SSMAs) help users move their existing databases to SQL Server 2005, 2008, and 2008 R2 by converting or migrating data, stored procedures, and other database objects from the source database to SQL Server. SSMA for MySQL and SSMA for Access also support migration to SQL Azure, a Microsoft-hosted database management service based on SQL Server. SSMA for Access allows tables to be linked directly from Access 2010 to SQL Azure, with no application modification necessary.
