  • Stream and Clipchamp, two Microsoft video processing and management products, are being merged due to feature overlap.
  • The Microsoft Stream brand is going away, replaced by Clipchamp.
  • Users will not lose content or any capabilities of the two products.
  • Admins will need to take extra steps (and pay extra) to ensure Office 365 and Frontline users will be able to access Clipchamp Standard.

The Stream enterprise video service is merging with the Clipchamp video-editing software. Microsoft says user content will not be impacted, nor will users lose any of the capabilities of the two products. Starting in Dec. 2024, Clipchamp becomes the single brand for the unified service, and the new unified home page combining the two offerings can be accessed by choosing the Clipchamp app from the Microsoft 365 list of applications.

Ongoing Changes for Video in Microsoft 365

Microsoft launched its Stream video service in 2017, replacing its Office 365 Video service. Stream handled the creation, uploading, sharing, management, and viewing of corporate videos (such as training and promotional videos) and has been included as part of Microsoft 365 and Office 365 suites. In 2021, Microsoft acquired video-editing software vendor Clipchamp Pty Ltd., and since then, Clipchamp—in Standard and Premium versions—has been available for consumers, business, and education customers via various plans. The Standard version has been included in Microsoft 365/Office 365 E3 and E5. A base-level Clipchamp version, missing more advanced features, has been included as a free “in-box” app in Windows.
