Office 365, Azure, Intune, and other Microsoft-hosted services use Azure Active Directory (AAD) for identity and access management. If organizations integrate their on-premises Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) domains with AAD, the integration infrastructure becomes mission critical. AAD Connect Health is a set of technologies that lets organizations see status and alerts relating to the servers and software used for AAD integration. AAD Connect Health could improve infrastructure performance and application availability for users; but AAD Premium licensing is required.

Identity Integration Options

AAD can be used stand-alone, requiring users to log in to Microsoft-hosted services with a separate set of credentials than they use with on-premises systems and applications. However, most organizations today opt for some form of integration between AD DS to AAD so that they maintain consistent credentials and other identity data across hosted services and on-premises systems. Microsoft supports two models of integration and a third model is in preview:
