The Windows 10 new continuous servicing model releases updates on a more frequent basis than previous versions. Organizations should consider the release of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update as a service pack and decide whether they should remain on Windows 7 or begin deployment of Windows 10 Enterprise edition. They will also need to consider and choose a servicing branch that will determine the frequency for which they need to apply updates and have a significant impact on their testing and deployment options.

Accelerated Release Cadence

Organizations traditionally move beyond the evaluation or piloting of a new version of Windows only after the release of a first service pack, because the first service pack marked the point where the new version was perceived to be stable. Windows 10 introduces a new continuous servicing model where service packs have been replaced by periodic releases that could improve existing features, add new features, remove features, and move features from one edition to another. With the concept of infrequent major versions being replaced by constant minor releases, it is time to rethink evaluation of new Windows releases.
