BizTalk Server 2016, released Nov. 2016, updates the software to work with the latest versions of Windows Server and other platform products and catch up with application-to-application messaging standards. BizTalk Server is Microsoft’s best established integration and business-to-business product used to tie together applications into larger business processes. The new version keeps it a viable choice for upgrades and extensions for existing BizTalk Server systems. However, most Microsoft development effort will go into a new application integration platform built on Microsoft-hosted Azure services.

BizTalk Server Background

BizTalk Server is Microsoft’s software for application integration and business-to-business commerce systems, and it enables organizations to tie together existing applications into larger business processes with minimal changes to the applications themselves. The software is commonly deployed on-premises, but it can be hosted by partners or by Microsoft in the company’s Azure Virtual Machines (VMs) service.
