Previews of Intune and Azure Active Directory (AAD) management interfaces signal major changes in Microsoft’s approach for managing hosted infrastructure services. The previews make the Web-based Azure portal and Microsoft Graph API the central points for administration of the Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS) suite of services, which help customers and partners standardize and automate management procedures. This move also signals the eventual retirement of existing management technologies for these services, including the legacy Azure “classic” portal currently used by AAD, and Intune’s current Silverlight-based console. Customers should plan migration to the new console ahead of release in 2017.

Previews Deliver New Consoles and Management APIs

The EMS suite is a collection of online services for managing and protecting devices, identities, and data. EMS bundles together one or more tiers of AAD Premium, Intune, Azure Information Protection (AIP, formerly Azure Rights Management Services), and a selection of additional services.
