Analyst ReportMonitoring Data Centers with Operations Manager 2016
Operations Manager (OM) 2016 enhances monitoring of infrastructure and applications across public and private clouds when it shipped in Oct. 2016. It also eases the discovery and maintenance of management packs, provides better support for Linux environments, and integrates with the Operations Management Suite to provide better analytics and improved diagnostics. Longer term, customers might want to plan for further integration with online services and should expect more rapid updates.
Operations Manager Overview
System Center Operations Manager enables administrators to centrally monitor the health and performance of devices, particularly Windows servers. It can take corrective actions automatically based on configurable and customizable rules and scripts. OM manages devices already in operation; it is not designed to deploy software or modify computer configurations. It uses management packs (MPs) customized for each device and application monitored—there are hundreds of MPs available from Microsoft, partners, and OEMs. (Management packs are described in the sidebar “What’s in a Management Pack?“.)
