Yammer Roadmap Update

693 wordsTime to read: 4 min

Yammer continues to receive incremental improvements that enhance integration with other Office 365 services and has new client applications for Windows and macOS. The Microsoft-hosted social-networking service for organizations remains useful for one-to-many and companywide communication, as well as for loosely organized interest groups. However, Microsoft Teams is the focus of Microsoft’s development efforts for online team- and project-based collaboration, and new features and capabilities are likely to emerge in Teams rather than Yammer.

Features and Capabilities

Yammer offers Web-based collaboration spaces with groups, conversations, and data sharing in a news-feed interface similar to public social-networking services, such as Facebook and Twitter. The service is positioned as a tool for communicating with large groups in what Microsoft calls the “outer loop,” to differentiate it from services like Teams and Skype for Business that are focused on smaller functional groups (the “inner loop”).
