  • Azure App Service can simplify processes and implementation of functionality compared to other ways to host server applications.
  • App Service could lower operating costs, but the savings might be outweighed by migration costs for complex or short-lived applications.
  • Organizations will need to use load testing or trial and error to find the right App Service plan for production applications.

Azure App Service is a Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering that hosts Web applications, services that can drive mobile and other types of applications, and code routines that can be called without requiring a persistent VM. App Service could be an attractive option for hosting applications and services compared to hosting them in organization-managed servers. The service could cut costs, simplify processes, and enable additional or more optimized functionality. However, costs may be hard to predict, and they could be higher than non-PaaS options in some cases.
