Analyst ReportAzure Service Profiler Collects ASP.NET Application Perf Data
- Azure Service Profiler monitors performance of Azure-hosted ASP.NET-based applications to help diagnose problems.
- The service will be used as part of Application Insights in most cases, which may incur costs.
Azure Service Profiler monitors and stores Web application response time data for subsequent developer analysis. Portal-based tools allow detailed review of the data to help identify the causes of certain types of application performance bottlenecks. The service supports ASP.NET applications running in Azure services such as Web Apps, Cloud Services, and Service Fabric. Service Profiler is offered as a feature of the Application Insights service, although some of its functionality is in preview.
Agent Collects Data Viewable in Portal
Service Profiler works with applications implemented using ASP.NET and ASP.NET Core. (ASP.NET is a Windows-only technology, while ASP.NET Core is supported on Windows, Linux, and macOS.) The service can be used with applications deployed using Azure Web Apps; support for applications that use other Azure services such as Cloud Services and Service Fabric is in preview. It is possible to use Service Profiler with applications hosted outside of Azure, but Microsoft does not officially support that scenario.
