Commerce Server 2009 R2 leaves Extended support July 9, 2019. Commerce Server is software for designing, building, deploying, and maintaining e-commerce Web sites. It includes modules for managing product catalogs, processing orders, user tracking and personalization, targeted marketing, and data analysis. Commerce Server 2009 R2 is the last version that Microsoft will support. Microsoft’s primary online commerce product is Dynamics 365 for Retail, the retail component of the Dynamics 365 Unified Operations (formerly Dynamics AX) enterprise resource planning software and service.

Microsoft has divested Commerce Server and since Nov. 2013 it has been developed by Sitecore, a vendor of customer experience management software. Extended support ends for the last Sitecore version in 2022, and Sitecore also offers a new product, Sitecore Experience Commerce, which has different APIs but some data migration from Microsoft Commerce Server versions. Sitecore is also a partner for Dynamics 365.
