Near-Term Updates and Roadmap (2026–2027)

Database for PostgreSQL is expanding quickly into scale-out, analytics, AI, and migration scenarios, but customers must manage version upgrades and preview dependencies carefully to avoid new costs and continuity risks.

Updates

The past year’s work concentrated on scale, analytics integration, AI capability, and administrator control.

Elastic clusters shards data across multiple servers without leaving the managed service, providing more complex deployment options.

Premium v2 storage allows capacity and performance to scale separately.

Mirroring to Microsoft Fabric replicates operational data into OneLake without custom pipelines.
