Azure Policy is a free service that is critical for deployment governance, and it should be included in Azure customer planning and processes. It allows IT managers to delegate Azure resource provisioning to users such as developers while ensuring security, cost, and compliance requirements. Hundreds of built-in policies shorten the required time investment in the service by reducing the need for custom policy implementations.

Service Overview

Azure Policy helps organizations set and maintain standards for how Azure services are used within an Azure tenancy. The service can simplify control over deployments at early stages while allowing highly customized control as deployments become more complex. Customers should understand Azure Policy’s capabilities and operational processes and plan for how it will be implemented and maintained to meet business requirements.

Capabilities

Azure Policy provides a deployment rules engine that is integrated within the Azure Resource Manager framework. Azure Resource Manager drives the deployment and management of Azure resources, such as VMs, Web Apps, and databases.
