Azure Stream Analytics is a real-time analytics and data-processing service designed to process and analyze high volumes of fast-streaming data from multiple sources simultaneously. It is designed to extract actionable insights from streams of events from IoT devices, social media feeds, and applications delivered by Azure services including Event Hubs, IoT Hub, Apache Kafka, or storage. Using the Stream Analytics Query Language, a subset of Microsoft’s Transact-SQL (T-SQL), it can filter, sort, and aggregate data as it arrives and route the processed information to outputs like dashboards, alerts, or data warehouses. The service runs in Azure, on Azure IoT Edge devices, and on Azure Stack Hub.

Near-Term Updates and Roadmap (2026-2027)

Stream Analytics is in maintenance. The last substantive additions—Kafka connectivity and virtual network integration—arrived in late 2024, and Microsoft has published nothing on the service since. Real-time investment has moved to Fabric Real-Time Intelligence, and Microsoft’s migration guidance now points Stream Analytics customers there.
