RoadmapVisual Studio Timeline
Visual Studio (VS) versions require specific updates for support. This timeline shows releases and retirements of VS major versions.
VS 2022 became generally available in Nov. 2021. Its Mainstream support ends in Jan. 2027. A Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) has been introduced with VS 2022. LTSC releases are the even-numbered minor updates (currently 17.0, 17.2, and 17.4), and they are supported for 18 months. The final update for VS 2022 will be supported until the end of the version’s Extended support cycle in Jan. 2032.
Current Channel releases of VS 2022 (not shown here) are delivered every three months, and they include the latest generally available features, platform compatibility updates, and bug fixes. Current Channel releases are distinguished by the second digit in the version number. Odd-numbered (non-LTSC) Current Channel releases are supported until the next Current Channel release arrives. (Even-numbered releases are supported for 18 months since they become LTSC releases.)
