The Azure brand has been applied to a wide range of Microsoft offerings, and not all of these offerings are covered in the Azure Roadmap.

Microsoft has defined a loose taxonomy for Azure services consisting of three categories: User Plans, Infrastructure Plans, and Services. However, not all services are aligned with the taxonomy.

The Azure Roadmap primarily covers the latter two categories. The services in the User Plans category are covered in the Directions on Microsoft research digest, in Update, and in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap. They include the following:

  • Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory), which includes a directory service based on Windows Server Active Directory and enables authentication and authorization for managing Azure deployments, and single sign-on authentication for users of Microsoft 365, other Microsoft-hosted services, and third-party applications that support the service
  • Azure Multi-Factor Authentication, which is a service that can provide two-factor
