Azure Stack Hub offers functionality of Microsoft-hosted Azure (Azure) for customer on-premises and third-party hosted deployments. Stack Hub could speed private cloud deployments, enable hybrid scenarios, and allow customers who have not used Azure due to compliance or regulatory reasons to deploy the technology. Stack Hub ships exclusively on hardware appliances from vendors such as Cisco, Dell EMC, Fujitsu, HPE, and Lenovo, which limits deployment options. Ruggedized Stack Hub hardware is offered, enabling scenarios where the systems must endure portability or harsh environments.

Azure Stack was renamed to Azure Stack Hub in late 2019 to reflect its position in a range of products that now use the Stack brand. The Stack line offers Azure technology for on-premises, hybrid, and so-called edge device deployments where software is run locally rather than hosted in Azure data centers. Other Stack offerings include Azure Stack Edge (formerly Data Box Edge) and Azure Stack HCI (hyperconverged infrastructure). Additional offerings allow Azure technologies to run in customer-hosted scenarios, including Azure Arc enabled data services and applications, IoT Edge, and Azure Modular Datacenter.
