Azure Confidential Ledger is a managed, append-only data store for records whose integrity must be independently verifiable. It combines blockchain-style consensus, cryptographic receipts, and hardware-backed confidential computing to protect audit trails, transaction evidence, and data-source digests from alteration by application administrators, cloud operators, and attackers.

Near-Term Updates and Roadmap (2026–2027)

Microsoft hasn’t positioned Confidential Ledger as a broad blockchain platform, but recent updates make it more practical for targeted audit, compliance, and data-integrity workloads. The near-term emphasis is on lower cost, easier integration, stronger audit portability, better retrieval, and controlled extensibility.

Backup and offline audit. Generally available backup to customer-controlled Azure Blob Storage and browser-based offline inspection improves audit portability and contingency planning, although customers still own retention design and storage costs.
