RoadmapDatabase for MySQL
Azure Database for MySQL is a managed relational database service based on the community edition of MySQL. It’s best suited for organizations moving existing MySQL applications to Azure or using the open-source database for new cloud applications. Microsoft manages the underlying infrastructure, backups, maintenance, and availability while retaining compatibility with common MySQL tools and applications. Customers have less administrative control than with MySQL installed on a VM.

Recent Updates and Near-Term Roadmap (2025–2026)
Recent updates and plans to the service are focused on adding advanced enterprise functionality that on-premises customers are used to seeing and have been asking Microsoft to add. For example, built-in stored procedures to help with plug-in management and cleanup, autoscaling of throughput for faster restore and replica deployment, and accelerated logs (for throughput performance) in Standard tier.
