Fabric Data Factory (FDF) is the data integration workload in Microsoft Fabric, used to move and transform data from on-premises, multicloud, and SaaS sources into OneLake and other destinations. It offers pipelines for orchestration, copy jobs for bulk and incremental data movement, Dataflow Gen2 for low-code Power Query transformations, mirroring for continuous replication of external databases, and Apache Airflow and dbt jobs for code-first teams. Connections and data gateways link it to sources.

Near-Term Updates and Roadmap (2026–2027)

FDF’s 2026 work concentrated on replication and migration with numerous capabilities being announced, previewed, and reaching general availability throughout the year. By comparison, the tools that matter most to Azure Data Factory (ADF) customers—the migration assistant, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) package execution, mapping data flow transforms, and the Gen1 upgrade wizard—remained in preview.
