RoadmapManaged Instance for Cassandra Roadmap
Azure Managed Instance for Apache Cassandra is a PaaS service that uses a native Cassandra deployment of current community editions of Apache Cassandra and supports Cassandra Query Language (CQL). Apache Cassandra is a NoSQL database product most often used for large database and data warehouse deployments that need high-speed aggregation, providing similar query, database integrity, and durability features of SQL Server.
Product: Managed Instance for Cassandra
Upcoming changes to the service in the near and long term include:
Near Term (2024–2025)
Apache Cassandra versions 3.11 and 4.0 are supported in the service, although version 3.11 reached the end of community support in Dec. 2023. Microsoft is continuing support of 3.11 in Managed Instance for Cassandra through Dec. 2024.
Recent updates include support for VPNs and Azure Private Link to eliminate the need for publicly accessible endpoints to deployments.
The service has not received any other significant updates since 2023, although services in which Microsoft is hosting an open source product often do not receive updates other than support for the latest version of the product. Microsoft typically relies on the open source foundation to provide updates, although the company sometimes adds its own integrations between the service and other Azure offerings.
