SidebarApplication Center
Application Center is a server product for managing Windows multitier applications. Such applications frequently consist of the following:
- A Web presentation tier of dynamic Web pages (Active Server Pages) that present data to the user and process the user’s responses
- A middle tier of .NET or COM+ components that implement the application’s core business logic
- A data tier that manages access to databases and other data sources.
Application Center includes software deployment, configuration, and monitoring tools for the Web presentation and business logic tiers as well as the COM+ Load Balancing service, which enables scaling of business logic on farms of servers.
Application Center does not deliver any tools for managing an application’s data tier. It is not intended for management of OSs or conventional Win32 applications, tasks for which Microsoft recommends SMS and MOM.
No future releases are planned for Application Center Server. The functions of Application Center will be taken over by future versions of Windows Server, SMS, and MOM, in 2008 or later.
