SidebarConsiderations When Managing PowerApps Licenses
Managing PowerApps licenses within an organization can be vital for controlling costs associated with the service, but there could be several issues faced by organizations as the service gains traction across business groups.
As PowerApps gains capabilities, it is increasingly matching features found in traditional development environments, and organizations that choose it for line-of-business development may require additional application life-cycle management.
The service is also finding adoption in smaller business units, and Microsoft does not offer controls for organizations to block user signups for PowerApps service within a domain. Organizations with centralized IT departments may spend significant time searching for and reining in unauthorized PowerApps projects, and projects that become vital to business processes may require unplanned support.
As PowerApps usage finds broad acceptance within an organization, more users might come to rely on line-of-business applications that require premium features such as connectors or access to on-premises data. These features will require users to move to Plan 1 or Plan 2 accounts and incur additional licensing costs.
