Microsoft Fabric is a data and analytics offering that became generally available in Nov. 2023. It includes seven services (called experiences) that provide features like machine learning and integration pipelines. The services are either new offerings created for Fabric or an evolution of a previous Azure service, such as Synapse Analytics.

The benefit of Fabric as a cohesive offering is that it preserves the capabilities of the individual services, allowing developers to work with tools and environments tuned to their requirements, but brings the services together as a cohesive offering, where users share a common UI and back-end data while working collaboratively in secure areas called Fabric workspaces. Fabric reduces the need for customers to integrate the services as previously required, which simplifies purchasing and deployment and helps maintain compliance and security.

Fabric is not a closed environment, which means most Fabric experiences work with external services and data. Customers can deploy Fabric using any combination of its experiences and integrate experiences with other Azure and external data stores and services.
