Updates to the Teams service and client applications are not tied to the update cadence of other Microsoft 365 offerings such as Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise (formerly known as Office 365 ProPlus), and general availability of new features has been particularly rapid in the last year as Teams added new features in response to work patterns changed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rather than being updated on existing channels used by Microsoft 365 Apps, Microsoft provides updates to the Teams desktop and mobile client applications every two weeks. These updates can include bug fixes, client-side enhancements, and access to new functionality available from the Teams service.

Updates for the Teams desktop application are offered and applied directly within the Teams application, but installation of updates can be controlled using Group Policy. Teams client applications for mobile devices running iOS, iPadOS, and Android are delivered by the app stores on those respective platforms and can be controlled via mobile device management (MDM) with services like Intune.
