Service Pack 5 for TSE Released

Microsoft has released Service Pack 5 (SP5) for Windows NT 4.0 Server Terminal Server Edition (TSE). TSE SP5 contains only bug fixes and is essentially the same product as the NT 4.0 SP5 released in May 1999. TSE uses a specially modified version of the NT kernel, and so requires its own version of each service pack. The need for separate TSE service packs will end in Feb. 2000 when Terminal Services will migrate into the Windows 2000 kernel and cease to exist as a separate product.

Customers don’t need SP5 for Y2K compliance; they can make a TSE SP4 system compliant by installing two patches available at the URL below. The first patch fixes an issue in which the system real-time clock may not roll over for up to an hour after midnight on Jan. 1, 2000. The second patch fixes a bug that prevents the License Server from starting on Feb. 29, 2000.
