Levels of Host Integration

The diagram illustrates the various levels of host integration performed by HIS 2000. PC workstations (pictured at the top) connect either directly to HIS 2000 when doing 3270 or 5250 terminal emulation or else connect to an IIS Web server or some other server application which in turn connects to HIS 2000. IIS may in turn link Web pages with another middle tier application that performs business logic functions or may link to a legacy host through HIS 2000. SQL Server can also exchange or synchronize data with host systems through HIS 2000.

The middle block represents the key functions that HIS 2000 performs.

The bottom block represents the software running on IBM-compatible mainframes or AS/4000 hosts with which HIS 2000 can integrate. The large arrows show the relationships between the host services and the HIS 2000 components that integrate with them.

The network connection between the LAN and the host is implemented either directly through a host TCP/IP connection or indirectly by using the HIS 2000 Server to perform conversion between TCP/IP and SNA.
