The recently released Windows CE 3.0 Add-On Pack includes components that will allow embedded system developers to build products with improved communication, Internet, and multimedia services.

Windows CE is an operating system for small-footprint and mobile devices, such as handheld computers, “smart” phones, and TV set-top boxes. Embedded system developers use the Windows CE Platform Builder to select from over 200 components that they can configure to build a highly customized embedded image that meets their requirements. The Add-On Pack shows the advantage of an operating system built from components: Microsoft can continue to release updated and new components that embedded system developers can easily incorporate into the embedded image build process. Combined with the Windows CE 3.0 components already available, the components in the Add-On Pack will allow for new Windows CE–based devices and applications with improved communications, and devices and applications that can be part of .NET.
