Analyst Report.NET Targets Enterprise
Microsoft has rolled out its new line of server applications, dubbing them .NET Enterprise Servers, and has announced vendor support for critical pieces, including its most powerful operating system ever, Windows 2000 Datacenter. The company has also announced partnerships with key players in the enterprise computing space and a new emphasis on consulting.
Microsofts .NET Enterprise Servers (several of which have not yet shipped) will offer a strikingly complete and coherent set of server-based applications for enterprise-level data crunching and communications.
Exchange 2000, and to a lesser extent, Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000, are aimed at person-to-person communications and collaboration.
Host Integration Server 2000 and BizTalk Server 2000 enhance application-to-application and server-to-server communications. Commerce Server 2000 and SQL Server 2000 store, massage, and analyze Web traffic and business data. Application Center 2000 extends the strength of the underlying Windows 2000 operating system to operating environments such as large e-commerce Web sites where massive transaction volumes, easy application management, rapid scalability, and multilevel redundancy are critical.
