Analyst ReportPartner Programs Revamped
To attract new players to its partnership programs, Microsoft is eliminating the Microsoft Certified Solution Provider (MCSP) brand and replacing it with a new partner program and brand that the company believes will better reflect the diversity of roles that partners play. The new partner program will make it easier for some types of companies, particularly application service providers (ASPs) and ISVs, to partner with Microsoft. The new “Microsoft Certified Partner” program will set new criteria for becoming an official Microsoft partner and will distinguish more clearly between companies capable of taking on enterprise-scale projects and those whose talents are best qualified for smaller projects.
Major Program Changes
Microsoft uses its partner programs to help sell its software (the company says 96% of its sales come through partners of some kind) and also to identify companies to which customers can be referred when they require not only software, but integration services, custom programming, or an ASP that hosts outsourced applications such as Exchange e-mail.
