Microsoft has unveiled the next version of its Web site creation and management tool, code-named “FrontPage 10.” Currently in a second beta, FrontPage 10 previews new features that introduce Web site analysis and collaboration to the basic HTML editing and publishing tools.

Content Creation

The following new features will help Webmasters create compelling content for their Web sites:

  • Automatic Web Content allows the Webmaster to insert content from MSN (stock quotes and search engines), MSNBC (headlines and weather), and bCentral (small business tools). For example, it takes only a few mouse clicks to insert an MSN Look-Up-Stock-Quote Web component to give a page a stock quote look-up feature. When a user enters a stock symbol, he or she gets a page from MSN Money Central with the requested stock information. This feature has the added bonus, from Microsoft’s perspective, of driving up MSN page hit statistics, helping MSN in the site-traffic war with other portals such as AOL and Yahoo.
