Analyst ReportWeb Releases Enhance SQL 2000 XML
Working with Extensible Markup Language (XML) documents should be much easier for SQL Server 2000 developers and administrators after the release of two additions to the product. One release helps translate between XML and SQL, while the other, a beta release, makes modifications and updates easier.
SQL Server 2000 (SQL 2000) introduced many capabilities for automatically generating XML documents from database data and storing data from XML documents in databases, enabling SQL 2000 to power data-driven Web sites where XML acts as a browser-independent format for content. SQL 2000 can also host Web applications in which XML provides a platform-neutral format for data interchange that’s supported by tools from many vendors. (See the Dec. 2000 Research Report SQL Server 2000 Targets Enterprises and the Web.)
Enhancing these capabilities are the SQL Server XML View Mapper 1.0 and the SQL 2000 XML Web Release 1 Beta 2. The first delivers developer tools for configuring SQL 2000 to accept and generate XML data, while the latter adds new features for updating SQL Server databases with XML data.
