One SBS Client Access License (CAL) is required for each workstation connecting to SBS 2000. SBS 2000 licenses come with five CALs; additional CALs are available in packs of five or 20.
Version Upgrades are available from SBS 4.5 only. Users must first perform a free upgrade from SBS 4.0 to SBS 4.5 before upgrading to SBS 2000.
Competitive/Product Upgrades give a price break to customers who already have licenses for Windows 2000, Windows NT 3.x or later, many commercial Unix-based operating systems, LAN Manager, and certain non-Microsoft networking products, including Novell NetWare and IBM LAN Server.
Microsoft’s Open License Program offers discounts of 10% to 25% on all SBS licenses. Because each SBS license includes five CALs, a single SBS purchase automatically qualifies customers for participation in this program.
