NCompass Resolution 4.0 is representative of many current content management products and contains features in the following areas:

• Content authoring—implemented using a Web browser, these tools give nontechnical authors a graphical environment to create various types of content (text, tables, lists, graphics) and user interface elements (buttons, menus, pull-down lists); they also include tools such as spell checkers and revision-marking and version-comparison utilities
• Security—allows an administrator to grant specific roles, such as contributor, editor, or approver, to users and groups for various aspects of the site
• Versioning—allows tracking and managing content items and templates that changes over time
• Editing and approval workflow—allows editors and approvers to be notified of proposed content changes and have a mechanism to approve or reject those changes
• Publishing calendar—allows changes to take effect or turn off at prescheduled times
• Link maintenance—once a content designer
