  • Project Reunion will allow developers to build Windows applications by combining API frameworks that have been mutually exclusive.
  • It will appeal to organizations with older Windows desktop applications that want to add user interfaces for mobile devices without reimplementing the applications entirely.
  • Organizations planning new applications might want to wait for Project Reunion so they can take advantage of multiple Windows API frameworks in the same application.
  • Project Reunion general availability is not planned before the end of 2020.

Project Reunion, announced in May 2020, will allow developers to use multiple API frameworks, including Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC), Windows Forms, Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), and the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) in the same Windows application. Developers currently have to choose between these frameworks, which have trade-offs in feature support and development complexity.
