  • Azure Monitor’s alerting system helps administrators and developers stay aware of and respond to problems that occur in deployments.
  • Planning and configuration are required because alerts are not configured by default.
  • Costs are based on the number of alerts created and the number of notifications that they generate.

Azure Monitor offers a central platform for organizations to gather, analyze, and act on monitoring data from Azure and non-Azure deployments. It includes an alerting system that can help IT staff and developers make operational decisions, diagnose problems, and improve code.

Alerting Capabilities

Monitor allows Azure customers to configure alert rules that can generate notifications or perform other tasks when a condition is met. The alerting system offers extensive capabilities for creating rules to track resources within and outside of Azure, and it provides several tools for reviewing alerts and configuring how they are handled.

These features help customers monitor behavior of their deployments and ensure they are providing appropriate availability and performance. They can help respond quickly to deviations from normal operation, such as high VM processor usage and Web application response failures, reducing the downtime and other impacts of the problem. The capabilities are similar to those offered by the on-premises System Center Operations Manager software, which Monitor can work with albeit using different technology.
