Azure Monitor’s Log Analytics tool allows collected log data to be queried and analyzed. Log Analytics is accessed in the Azure portal in the Azure Monitor user interface and in certain Azure resource user interfaces.
Log Analytics provides a query engine and editor to analyze logs using the Kusto Query Language (KQL), which is a Microsoft-created language similar to T-SQL but optimized for working with event data. Queries are entered in the editing window (top right), which supports IntelliSense (pop-ups that suggest commands while typing) and keyword coloring like the Visual Studio code editor. Query results are displayed in the lower-right window when “Run” is selected.
Results can be displayed as text tables (seen here) or charts if the result set is applicable.
The Log Analytics tool works with Log Analytics workspaces, which must be provisioned and configured to collect desired data. The schema window (left of the query editor) shows the tables of data contained within the scoped workspaces.
