  • This report was updated to include information on the Office applications and services reliance on the WebView2 runtime.
  • Legacy Edge, a browser originally shipped as a component of Windows 10, will be removed by the Apr. 2021 quality update.
  • Internet Explorer 11, considered a component of Windows 10, will continue to receive security updates, although some Microsoft 365 services applications are withdrawing support.
  • Organizations should not rely on IE support in Windows 10 other than the IE compatibility support built into (Chromium-based) Edge.

Three browsers are currently part of Windows 10: Internet Explorer (lE) 11, legacy Edge, and the newer Chromium-based Edge. This number will be reduced to two when legacy Edge leaves support in Mar. 2021 and is uninstalled by the Apr. 2021 quality update on April’s Patch Tuesday. IE 11 continues to be supported on Windows 10, meaning security updates will be made available as needed. However, some Microsoft 365 services and applications are ending support for IE 11, which means IE or IE technologies used by other applications may not work properly with these applications even though Windows still provides security updates for it.
