  • Connecting industrial devices to the cloud in IoT systems can yield significant benefits such as analytics, supply chain optimization, and predictive maintenance.
  • Azure can ingest, store, and analyze device data at massive scale to enable applications that are difficult or impossible on-premises.
  • A complete IoT solution may involve connecting many Azure services that add to the cost.

Azure provides a comprehensive, and occasionally overlapping, set of services supporting commercial Internet of Things (IoT) deployments. By leveraging massively scalable services such as Azure networking and storage, analytics, and business intelligence, IT and operational technology (OT) professionals can create end-to-end applications providing near-real-time visibility and control of IoT devices, as well as analytics-based applications for tasks such as predictive maintenance. Many of the Azure services can be deployed either in the public cloud or at the edge (on-premises or on-site) depending on latency, connectivity, and compliance requirements. However, use of these services may add to the overall cost of an IoT solution.
