New Surface Hardware Targets Enterprises

Illustration shows new Surface Laptop 4. New hardware, including the Surface Laptop 4 and four hardware accessories certified for use with Teams, was announced in Apr. 2021. The accessories include a Modern Headset, Modern Speaker, Modern Webcam, and Modern Wireless Headset.

Surface Laptop 4 is designed to work with graphics-intensive software such as Teams. Available models include a variety of processors and GPUs such as the AMD Ryzen processors and AMD Radeon graphics, or Intel i5 and i7 processors with Intel Iris X graphics. Available in two screen sizes—13.5″ and 15″—both feature PixelSense 10-point multitouch support. Different models feature different combinations of processors, with 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB of Low-Power Double Data Rate (LPDRR4x) RAM, and solid-state storage ranging from 256GB to 1TB.

Organizations will likely want to consider devices with the AMD Ryzen processors because they fall within the specifications for the Secure-core initiative. These devices leverage the included Trusted Platform Module 2.0 (TPM) and the AMD Ryzen Processors with System Guard to boot securely and minimize the impact of firmware vulnerabilities by sandboxing firmware. They also support Kernel Direct Memory Access to help ensure the device is protected against malicious Direct Memory Access (DMA) attacks and unintended DMA errors.
