  • Visual Studio 2022 was announced in Apr. 2021, and a preview will arrive mid-2021.
  • The new version brings developers performance, scalability, usability, and productivity improvements.
  • It will include more integration with GitHub, although improvements to Azure DevOps integration have not been announced.

Improvements arriving in Visual Studio (VS) 2022 include further integration with GitHub (which has been a focus in recent VS 2019 updates), a move to a 64-bit process for greater scalability, streamlined UIs to reduce visual clutter, and debugger enhancements.

VS Background

VS provides an integrated development environment (IDE) for designing, coding, debugging, and testing software. It can be used to create managed applications based on Microsoft’s .NET runtimes and languages, such as C# and Visual Basic, and traditional, unmanaged C and C++ applications. The IDE can also be used to build cross-platform Android and iOS mobile applications and C++ applications that target Linux. VS includes extensive integration with Azure to help developers leverage the Microsoft-hosted cloud platform.
