  • Advanced eDiscovery features currently in preview address managing large cases and using predictive coding to find relevant documents.

Advanced eDiscovery is a Microsoft 365 E5 feature that can help an organization investigate internal or external incidents or matters, such as litigation. An eDiscovery Preview that became available in July 2021 addresses two key eDiscovery issues: handling large and complex cases and leveraging predictive coding to find relevant documents.

Advanced eDiscovery Background

Generally, an organization uses an eDiscovery tool to investigate an internal incident, such as a claim of harassment, or an external event, such as litigation or a regulatory enforcement action. Microsoft provides an eDiscovery tool as part of Microsoft 365 that is split into two levels:

Core eDiscovery, included with Microsoft 365 E3 licenses, offers eDiscovery components that enable administrators to create cases and to identify, hold, and export user data.

Advanced eDiscovery, which requires Microsoft 365 E5 licenses, offers eDiscovery components that enable administrators to better focus an investigation on truly relevant data.
