  • Teams capabilities delivered via integration with other Microsoft 365 services could affect the choice between Microsoft 365 F1 and F3.
  • When organizations choose between Microsoft 365 E3 and E5, Teams core capabilities will likely take a back seat to other functionality and license considerations.
  • Add-ons like Teams Premium and Copilot for Microsoft 365 add capabilities that are not included with any Microsoft 365 suite.
  • Note: This report has received minor updates to reflect changes in Teams bundling with Microsoft 365 suites as of Apr. 1, 2024.

Microsoft Teams is a service included in Microsoft 365 (and Office 365) Enterprise suites, or as a separate Teams Enterprise subscription used in conjunction with Microsoft 365 suites. Teams offers group-based collaboration spaces with persistent chat, voice and video meetings, integrated access to several Microsoft 365 services, and connections to many third-party services. The core capabilities of Teams vary only slightly based on the Microsoft 365 suite selected. However, capabilities enabled by other services (OneDrive, for example) differ based on the Microsoft 365 license assigned. Lastly, some highly promoted capabilities are available only through add-on licenses with considerable per-user costs.
