  • Consumer OneDrive and OneDrive for Business share a common software client and many features.
  • Most enterprises will want to steer their users to OneDrive for Business to reduce risk from data leaks.

OneDrive is the shared name of two services from Microsoft that provide cloud-hosted file storage through a single software client and integration with Microsoft 365 components. A consumer-targeted service, called OneDrive, provides free file storage, integration with desktop Office applications, and synchronization with most modern desktop and mobile platforms. An enterprise version, OneDrive for Business, provides similar functionality but adds organizational controls for security, compliance, administration, and other features.
