  • Linux client management via Intune is now available but is extremely limited.
  • The capability can help secure access to corporate Web applications accessed from corporate Linux client devices.
  • While the base level of Intune Linux management is included as part of Intune Plan 1 for no additional charge, it currently only supports two recent Ubuntu Linux releases.

Although Microsoft has supported management of Linux client devices in the past, it has historically not invested heavily in Linux management features. Configuration Manager dropped support for both Linux and macOS in May 2020, and was the last version of Configuration Manager to support Linux, leaving Microsoft with a multiyear gap where no support was available for Linux PC management. Intune received the initial steps toward providing Linux client management several years ago. Unfortunately, the gap still exists, as Intune’s Linux client management features are quite limited in terms of breadth, depth, and platform support. Effective Linux management requires Intune administrators to have familiarity with shell scripting and must be performed using Intune’s custom compliance functionality
