Analyst ReportAzure Red Hat OpenShift
- Azure Red Hat OpenShift provides a fully managed Kubernetes orchestration platform on Azure, jointly operated by Microsoft and Red Hat.
- ARO could reduce the cost of moving existing Red Hat OpenShift deployments to Azure and limits the risk of cloud vendor lock-in for other applications.
- However, customers with certain Kubernetes deployments will usually find Azure Kubernetes Service less expensive and easier to deploy and manage.
IBM Red Hat OpenShift (RHOS) is a popular family of open source container orchestration products targeting enterprise deployments, with tools for both administrators and developers. RHOS is based on the widely used Kubernetes framework and can run in many different types of environments, including mainframes such as the IBM zSeries and pSeries, VMs in cloud services, and managed services on Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and IBM clouds. The Azure Red Hat OpenShift (ARO) managed service thus provides an interesting way to migrate containerized applications to Azure without tying the application to Azure.
