The Internet Explorer (IE) 11 browser is no longer supported on Windows 10 deployed through the General Availability Channel (formerly the Semi-Annual Channel) as of June 15, 2022, although it remains available in other scenarios (discussed below). In its place, Microsoft is encouraging organizations to switch to the Microsoft Edge browser and rely on Edge’s IE mode. IE mode enables backward compatibility with Web sites built to support IE. IE mode will be supported through at least 2029.

For full support of IE mode, including support for calling IE COM objects (which was recently restored to IE mode), and for bidirectional cookies, users must have installed the latest quality updates for Windows 10 and 11 and Edge version 99 or later.

Contrary to all previous documentation, which listed IE as a Windows OS feature, Microsoft now calls IE a desktop application and asserts that the Windows OS support life-cycle policy does not apply to it.

The end of support for IE on supported versions of the Windows 10 client OS does not affect the following:
