Analyst ReportNext Exchange Server Version in 2025
- Exchange Server’s next and possibly last version will not appear until 2025.
- Customers will get little time to test and migrate to the next version.
- Exchange Server 2019 will improve in security and management before its 2025 retirement.
- The next version will require subscription licenses and will be subject to shutdown on one year’s notice.
Exchange Server provides e-mail communication and manages calendars, contacts, and tasks, either on its own or integrated with the Exchange Online hosted service in a so-called hybrid configuration. Microsoft’s e-mail development now focuses on Exchange Online, which shares code with Exchange Server but receives new features and other updates before the on-premises software does. The company had planned a new Exchange Server version in 2022. However, it now plans a series of smaller improvements to Exchange Server 2019, followed by a new version in 2025.
