  • Microsoft Defender for Office 365 P1 analyzes e-mail, documents, and links to help prevent malware, phishing, and other attacks.
  • Microsoft Defender for Office 365 P2 analyzes Office 365 tenancies to help customers discover attacks or other suspicious incidents.
  • Only Windows supports the Safe Documents features for Office; but that platform also likely needs the features most.

Microsoft Defender for Office 365 includes two tiers that help prevent and assess security incidents: P1 addresses malware in collaboration services and clients, and P2 monitors and responds to attacks against the organization’s hosted services tenancy. A nearly identical set of features is available on all supported client OSs, but Safe Documents, a feature that relies on Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, is exclusive to Windows. Owing to the increased risks posed by malicious Office documents to Windows, Safe Documents will probably deliver the most value on that platform.
